Newborns
The best age for your newborns shoot is between 5 – 12 days old as they are still in their “womb like” position and enjoy being curled up in those adorable poses, after 14 days old newborns are usually more alert so can be more difficult to get them settled and stay curled up as they have also learned how awesome it is to stretch out. Other factors such as collic or baby acne also tend to flare up after 14 days old. For Newborns who have to have a longer stay in hospital don’t worry, but it is important to keep me informed and organise the session for as soon as possible after they have gone home.
Booking in your session:
I recommend mums to be to book in their session during their pregnancy, I do this as I only take a limited number of bookings each month to ensure enough time to edit each session in a timely manner aswell as leaving time for babies who may come early or late. I offer a Bump to Baby package also so if you would like both Maternity & Newborn photos you receive a special discounted price for booking both. But please don’t stress if you have just had a baby please contact me now and I may be able to squeeze you in.
Contact me to book a session, I require a non refundable deposit of $150 to secure your place which comes off the total package price.
Once I have received your deposit I pencil your due date into my diary to allocate time for your session as I only take a limited amount of bookings to allow for babies who come early / late or longer hospital stays. Once Bub has arrived, Please add me to your announcement list and we can tentatively book a date for your session.
Where does the session take place?
My Newborn sessions take place in my Natural light home studio located in the Sutherland Shire, I have lots of different set ups available for use along with many different props such as: bowls, baskets, headbands, wraps, knitted outfits, lace overlays, bonnets etc
Before the Session:
I ask my clients to arrive at 10.00am and feed bub after you have arrived so we can get your baby nice and content and into a deep sleep ready for their photo session. Bring your baby in some comfortable clothes that will be easy to take off as the majority of newborn photos are naked or in specific prop clothing. Please do not dress your baby in a singlet as this is always the item of clothing that wakes up your bub and the depper sleep they are in, the better photos you will receive J
How long will the session take?
A typical Newborn session can take up to 4 hours, which may seem like a long time, but usually about half of that time is spent feeding and comforting the baby to get him or her as sleepy and happy as possible for the portraits. I allocate plenty of time as the main priority is to keep baby nice and happy and if that means multiple feeds in between poses then that’s fine.
What do I bring?
Feel free to bring any sentimental items you wish to be incorporated into the session i.e. Special teddy bear or blanket. Other good things to bring are dummies (if you use one) extra nappies and baby wipes. Also a good idea to bring a change of clothes for yourself (if you’re not going home straight after as holding a naked baby you might get pooped on, don’t worry I get pooped on all the time!) Bottles and formula if you are not breastfeeding for feeds as bub will definitely need a top up during the session. As the session can take up to 4 hours, it’s also a good idea to bring some snacks or a packed lunch with you as I will be busy with your bundle of joy, it’s a great time for you to be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy some time together, get up to date on your emails or even take a nap, whatever you like! J
Parent Photos:
I really encourage parents to be prepared to have a few parent shots, I always find that even when some parents do not wish to have parent shots, sometimes have on the day and ended up loving them, its also a good idea to be prepared because if baby needs some extra comforting, parent shots can work well to get a nice relaxed bub and gorgeous pics.
What to wear?
It’s best to wear plain coloured clothing with no big logos or writing on them (plain black / white / light coloured clothing work best) even if you don’t plan to have any photos taken just come prepared because if bub is unsettled some cuddling photos with a parent can be beautiful shots.
